How the Enterprise is Shifting Its Hadoop Habits

Earlier this year, we discussed how Hadoop’s role in the enterprise would move from data storage to data analytics.

Now that we are well into 2015, there is another important shift that we should mention: the move from analyzing historical data to acting on real-time data – or data in motion.

Data in Motion – Hadoop Insights

Decision makers want to harness real-time data with Hadoop.

Why the need to act on data as it happens?

When enterprise clients initially engaged Hadoop, it was to help them store data in a supremely flexible, scalable, and affordable way.

Now that unstructured data is in abundance, businesses want the luxury of tapping into that data to glean insights that will help drive revenue on the fly.

This is where data in motion helps the cause.

Data in motion captures information as it happens, so with Hadoop in the enterprise there is the option to not only access real-time data but also make more efficient and targeted business decisions based on behaviors, intent, locations, and other data indicators.

It is not only about what has happened, but also about what is happening that will allow businesses to become more data-driven.

How is your organization using Hadoop beyond data storage?

Their willingness to go above and beyond has resulted in consistently meeting schedules with high quality releases despite several challenges that needed to be overcome.

Doug DeRosia - VP of Program Management, Dot Hill Systems Corp
  • Vedams is a highly valuable addition to Xyratex’s own global product test organization. With product availability and reliability requirements being key differentiators for Xyratex in its markets, the need for exhaustive, rigorous and in-depth functional testing is critical.

The knowledge required to perform at this level, being very data storage focused, is not easily obtained but I have been impressed by the way these skills have been cultivated and the low levels of staff turnover.
